Press Ups for Charity
The people of Horsham are going crazy for press-ups as a way to get in shape…and give something back to our injured service men and women. It’s called Press-ups for Charity and it’s causing quite a stir.
Created by Ben Davis and Steve Cork of Sussex Bootcamps, a leading provider of guaranteed-results personal training and fitness Bootcamps here in Horsham, Press-ups for Charity is a fun way to get fit and make a difference by supporting Help for Heroes, a charity whose mission is to provide practical, direct support for all our injured service men and women.
There will be a Press-ups for Charity Challenge on Saturday 4th September 2010 in Horsham Park, meeting at the Bandstand at 9.30am. This event is open to all of Horsham residents who want to come out and do as many press-ups as they can in 90 seconds to raise money for Help for Heroes.
On the day there will be a steady warm up and then we will start with the press up event. The rest of the session will be an energetic Bootcamp session.
Full information is available at www.pressupsforcharitysussex.com for those who want to participate.
“Our goal is two-fold,” explains Ben, “we want to show our support for the wounded soldiers who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and security and we want to engage our local community in a fun way to get fit.”
“The community is really rising to the challenge – there is a lot of interest in Press-ups for Charity. I think that says a lot about our community’s interest in supporting wounded soldiers and is a reflection of how much people appreciate the importance of being healthy,” says Steve.
Press-ups are one of the foundational exercises for overall body strength and lean muscle development. Lean muscle increases metabolic activity so the body burns more calories. Additionally, press-ups are a simple exercise anyone can do almost anywhere. “Press-ups are a gateway exercise,” adds Davis “people feel results quickly, sometimes within days and that inspires them to do more exercise.”

Free games for all in Horsham Park
TWO Sports Rangers have been deployed by Horsham District Council to encourage sport in Horsham Park.
Funded by the Government Future Jobs Fund, the new roles are intended to promote sport by letting people use equipment and games for free at certain times during the summer.
Kieren Clarke-Hill and Christopher Woods have both been unemployed for six months but are very keen to find employment within the sports industry. These roles are for a six month period and will give them a good foundation and experience to progress there careers at the end of this contract.
The Sports Rangers want to get people involved in sport whatever their age or ability. With free games such as volleyball, badminton and table tennis, and organisation of team sports such as football and basket ball it is hoped we will see a vibrant and sporting scene in Horsham Park this summer.
Further details will be advertised around Horsham Park as arrangements are confirmed. Details will also be posted online at www.horsham.gov.uk and on Horsham District Council’s facebook page.
The Sports Rangers will be visiting other locations in the Horsham District.
