 | South Street was one of the original four Streets that met at Carfax (the others being North, East and West Streets). At this time South Street ran all the way to St Mary’s Church. In the sixteenth century the section from the (what is now called) Market Square to the Church was renamed “The Causeway”. As a result South Street is now very short. |
