Eight new firefighters have joined the ranks of West Sussex County Council Fire and Rescue Service – after making training history.
They’re the county’s first ‘home grown’ firefighters, receiving their 16-week training from West Sussex and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service instructors. The training was held at East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service’s centre in Uckfield. Eight East Sussex recruits also took part.
Prior to this new system, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service recruits were trained outside the county by non West Sussex instructors.
The new recruits are: Steven Brown, Joseph Weir, Ben Goodridge, Paul Jenkins, Holly Beeston, Robert Hollingum - who will be based at Horsham. Tim Taylor will be based at Crawley and Andrew Tredre at Chichester.
West Sussex Instructor Andy Parsons said: “The success of the students shows how well our collaboration with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has worked.”
