Popular CBeebies presenter Justin Fletcher will be the star of the Capitol Theatre’s next pantomime, Cinderella.
Following the incredible success of last year’s Peter Pan, this year’s festive treat will be filled with glitter and glamour, wands and wishes, rags and riches – not to mention a pair of wicked and ugly stepsisters.
Justin Fletcher, one of the most popular presenters on CBeebies for his roles in Higgledy House, Tikkabilla and Something Special, will be playing Buttons.
Justin said: “Being in panto is lots of fun and hard work, and playing Buttons will give me such joy. How great to share this fantastic adventure with the audience in Horsham and at a lovely theatre.”
Michael Gattrell, General Manager of The Capitol & Producer of 'Cinderella' said “There’s no doubt that Cinderella is one of the most popular fairytales of them all and I am delighted to have secured the talent of such an iconic Children's superstar, we will give The Capitol's audience a pantomime to remember.
“We are really pleased with the ticket sales so far,” he added. “Last year broke records but it looks like they are going out faster as more and more people learn who is in the cast!
You can expect plenty to hiss and boo at, lots of sing-along songs, as well as plenty of fun and jokes for the children…and adults too! With great characters, a fairytale story and dazzling costumes, Cinderella promises to be a real treat for all the family this Christmas.”
Justin Fletcher performs a number of roles on Cbeebies, both speaking and performing. He is well known as being one of the main presenters on many children's shows, especially Something Special, which he presents while signing in Makaton.
In 2007, The Sun newspaper ran a story claiming that he was swearing in sign language during his performances as Mr Tumble in the show Something Special. Fans set up a website called www.mrtumbleisinnocent.com, but it was quickly discovered that the offensive phrase in question was only similar to ‘I’m Happy to See You’ in Makaton symbols.
At the time the BBC said: “We have reviewed our complaints since January 2006 and cannot find a single complaint that suggests viewers have misinterpreted, or been offended by, the Makaton signs used in Something Special.”
Cinderella runs for 41 performances from Thursday 10th December 2009 until Sunday 3rd January 2010.
