Anyone stumbling home in the early hours of Sunday morning after a heavy night on the sauce might have thought it was time to quit drinking.
But no, the train of 900 women dressed in pink strolling through Horsham town centre was not an alcohol-induced illusion.
It was this year’s Midnight Walk in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice, which started in Horsham Park and looks set to raise around £130,000 for the local charity.
Many were dressed in colourful fancy dress featuring an array of pink Stetsons, tutus and deeley-boppers as they set about tackling the 13-mile course.
Some were running for family and friends who had fallen victim to a terminal illness, while others were just there to raise some money and enjoy what is one of the most entertaining local events on the social calendar!
At the end of the walk, all of the participants were given a medal and treated to a well-deserved free breakfast.
Although the Midnight Walk itself was a women-only event, lots of men added their support on the night too by acting as event marshals.
St Catherine’s Event Fundraiser, Cat Boulter, said: “The amount that we look set to raise is a massive achievement and we’re absolutely delighted. It’s the second year that
St Catherine’s has organised a Midnight Walk and once again, the atmosphere on the night was fantastic. We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the women who took part, and everyone who has supported them. Their efforts were really inspiring and much appreciated by everyone at St Catherine’s.
“We’d also like to thank all of the event marshals and other volunteers, Horsham District Council, The Red Cross, RAYNET, and everyone else who’s helped us to run this event in so many ways.”
