French Revolution in Horsham Town

by The Resident 3. July 2009 11:17

Horsham town centre will be littered with thousands of cigarette butts and the smell of topless, unwashed French this weekend.

Oh, our apologies, those stories about the French are NOT true (see below - although something about point number five has a ring of truth to it!)

Yes, we’ve had the romance of Piazza Italia and the patriotic English Festival, now it’s the turn of Frenchfest.

Now in its fourth year, it is all set to provide visitors with a great variety of Gallic treats from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th July.

The festival combines an authentic French market in the Carfax, and French culture, history and themed entertainments all over the town including a troop of French Napoleonic re-enactors, the 45eme, who will be drilling ‘new recruits’ and story telling on Saturday.

Local businesses including banks and restaurants are entering into the spirit of things with special promotions, competitions and samples to tempt visitors into returning to Horsham popular town centre on a regular basis.

And there’s even a boules competition, or petanque as we’re having to call it (back to that number five again!)

As with previous year’s Horsham FrenchFest encourages visitors and local students to practise their French language skills with the traders and special FrenchFest stickers will be handed out to those who try their linguistic skills.

The complete details of the programme can be downloaded from www.frenchfest.co.uk and whether you come in to practise your French with the market traders, to seek out the weekend’s shop promotions or simply to soak up the special FrenchFest atmosphere – it should be a great weekend.

Here’s one for free - deux croissants de chocolat et une baguette s'il vous plaît. It’s all we know...
