He’s one of the most popular kids in school with fellow students and teachers, always strolling around with a smile on his face.
Yet Year 10 student Leo Apostol has no right to be the happiest boy in the class.
He suffers from cerebral palsy, has limited movement on his left side plus communication and speech problems and needs over 20 hours of support for Leo each week.
Not that you’ll ever hear him complaining.
In fact, his cheerful persona has meant that when it came around to fundraising for a new communication aid for Leo so he can communicate with much greater ease, his friends and teachers at Tanbridge House School - and in particualr local business Class Technology Systems (CTS) Limited - surpassed all expectations.
The specialised communication aid from Dynavox which Leo needs costs with training and insurance approximately £4000.
Leo recently trialled the aid for just three days and in that short time the difference it made to him was incredible.
Jules White, headteacher approached CTS to find a supplier for the specialised communication aid for Leo and upon hearing why the aid was needed Neal Grayston, Managing Director of CTS Limited, immediately offered £1000 towards the cost.
The generosity of CTS has kick started Tanbridge’s fundraising for the aid and both Tanbridge and Leo’s family cannot thank Class Technology Systems Limited enough.
Tanbridge House School will be holding a fundraising event on Tuesday 21st July with support from Sodexo and Barclays Bank and hope to be purchasing this life changing aid for Leo very shortly.
Sally Hawes, Senior Leading of Learning at Tanbridge House School said: ‘We are so grateful to CTS, Sodexo and Barclays for their generous contributions.
“Leo is a wonderful student who really deserves this special devise. He always has a cheerful smile on his face.
“We feel it will be a vital support as he moves towards his post 16 goals and of equal importance it will help Leo to socialise more easily with his friends’.
