I Love You Mum, I Promise I Won't Die by Mark Wheeller
Daniel Spargo-Mabbs was a bright, articulate and popular 16 year-old from south London with a great sense of humour and a huge zest for life. He died on 20 January 2014, having taken MDMA (ecstasy) at an illegal rave a couple of days earlier. This wasn’t the kind of thing Dan usually did.
The Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation, a drug and alcohol education charity has been set up by Dan’s parents, Tim and Fiona, in order to try to prevent any harm happening to any other family
I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die
This verbatim play, written by award-winning playwright Mark Wheeller, tells Dan’s story, entirely in the words of his family and friends. The audience sees the decisions that led to his death and the consequences of his loss on his friends and his family.
The title comes from the final words Dan said to his mother Fiona before he left home for the last time on 17 January 2014.
The performance (45mins) will be followed by a Q&A session with the playwright Mark Wheeller.
