Buck Barn crossroads had initially been the site of an early 19th-century turnpike built to control traffic on a new road connecting the existing Horsham to Worthing road to a new East / West road through the Weald.
Today, it remains a very busy junction and is well known as the location of a popular drive-through McDonalds restaurant.
