Christ's Hospital Theatre

Nov. 18, 2021 | 8 p.m.

We are extremely pleased to be continuing with our very successful Evenings of Comedy and will be hosting another evening of laughter in Christ's Hospital's fantastic theatre.

Our ‘headline’ act is Rhys James, an accomplished comedian, writer and actor who you will have seen on ‘Roast Battle’, ‘Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central’, ‘A League of Their Own’ and ‘Live At The Apollo’ and as a regular panellist on ‘Mock The Week’. He has performed six solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe to sell-out audiences and critical acclaim, with his 2019 show ‘Snitch’ being one of the best reviewed comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe. He has had three BBC Radio 4 series, ‘Rhys James is…’, ‘Rhys James Isn’t…’ and ‘Rhysearch’, all met with great acclaim and delight of listeners and critics. Rhys also hosts podcast ‘Early Work’ in which he interviews celebrities about the creative writing they did before they were in their current vocation, guests include O-T Fagbenle, Sara Pascoe, Lolly Adefope and Tom Rosenthal.

Our host for the evening is affectionately known as one of the hardest working comedians on the circuit, Thanyia Moore. She has been performing comedy since 2012 and is one of the only females in the UK who works both the mainstream and Black comedy scenes simultaneously. In 2018 she was crowned Funny Women Champion, beating over 400 women in the process and joining the likes of Katherine Ryan, Andi Osho and Sarah Millican among others. She has performed all over the UK and the world alongside some of the best known comics on the scene today as well as being the founder and host of her own night ‘Moore Laughter’. She is a regular at ‘Top Secret Comedy’, ‘Glee Clubs’ and ‘Hysterical Women’. In addition she also lends herself to many charitable causes, one in particular of which she is a member is Kiwanis London South East who work with people who aren’t privileged in the UK.

Our third act is the Sony and Writers Guild Award winning writer and comedian Mark Steel who is best known for his critically-acclaimed BBC Radio 4 show Mark Steel’s In Town. Now in it’s 8th series, In Town went onto to win the 2018 BBC Radio Awards Best Comedy Show.
Mark is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz. He’s written several, acclaimed books, including: Reasons To Be Cheerful and What’s Going On and he writes a weekly column for The Independent.

or
• You have received a negative PCR or lateral flow test result within 48 hours of the event
or
• You have proof of natural immunity by way of a positive PCR test taken within the last 180 days but not within the 10 days prior to the event

Although there are other ways to prove this without use of a smartphone, the simplest way is via the NHS COVID Pass which is an online app providing a certificate that demonstrates your status.

Under 18’s will be asked to provide verbal confirmation that they have not tested positive nor are they currently suffering from symptoms of COVID-19

Some performances may continue to be rescheduled in response to the pandemic. Where possible customers with tickets will be contacted about these changes and our website updated.

We encourage customers to continue wearing a face mask when in close proximity to other members of the public and our hand sanitising stations and enhanced cleaning regimes will remain in place.

We look forward to a future beyond the pandemic, but for now we urge you to work with us and be sensitive and respectful to other people’s opinions and beliefs. We will continue to do all that we can to ensure your visit to Christ’s Hospital is safe and secure.
