About the event:
There will be two bands performing, one at at 11am - 1pm and one at 2pm - 4pm, every Saturday from May to August, town centre events permitting.
About the band:
The band was originally formed in 1976 under the snappy name of the East Sussex County Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra. The band was linked to the East Sussex County Music Service based in Lewes and provided an opportunity for young musicians in the area to regularly rehearse and perform public concerts.
Jonathan Bailey became musical director of the band in 1977 and instantly brought a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere to rehearsals.
In 1987, the band became an independent organisation reflecting the wider age range of our members and our desire to perform public concerts throughout the whole year.
The East Sussex Concert Band performs a wide variety of attractive and interesting music including show tunes, film music, classical transcriptions, big band jazz, marches and solo features, as well as some original works for concert band.
The band performs around ten to twelve bandstand concerts across Sussex in the summer months and round off the year with a Christmas concert in either East Hoathly or Chiddingly church.
