The REC Rooms

July 3, 2019 | 7 p.m.

The REC Rooms are proud to present their first ever drum clinic. What a way to kick it off with the superb Colin Woolway and Pete Cater, prime pedigree drummers.

Colin Woolway
(Born 24 January 1959 in Herne Hill, Lambeth, United Kingdom) is a well known drummer, teacher and author of Drumsense Volumes 1 & 2, which are rapidly becoming the standard books for teaching beginners to play the drum kit. As a professional drummer he toured the world for 20 years, including eight years as Suzi Quatro's drummer, and then he hung up the touring boots to concentrate on teaching. This resulted in a very busy teaching studio, the aforementioned books, a percussion video and more recently, the Drumsense Teaching Project. He also used to write an educational column, called Teasers, each month for Rhythm magazine, the UK produced drummers magazine. Now, however, he writes the Getting Started column in Rhythm magazine. He has since resumed the "Teasers" page in US magazine "Drumhead". Billy Cobham & Jon Hiseman are cited by Woolway as his biggest influences in drumming

Pete Cater
Pete Cater has been involved with drums for his entire life and has now clocked up in excess of fifty years behind the drums. Movie footage exists of him hand drumming aged barely 12 months and the innate talent cannot be missed. His musical tastes matured similarly early, and courtesy of his Dad’s record collection he was, by age 5, already a devotee of Joe Morello, Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson. Arguably best known for his exploits keeping big band jazz by leading his own 15 piece group, Pete is however a player of rare versatility.
BIG BAND Pete Cater
In addition to big band playing he works with jazz groups of all sizes from mainstream to contemporary and freelances in a wide variety of music genres. Most recently Pete has released his educational DVD Pete Cater: On Drums in which he shares personal concepts evolved over more than half a century playing drums.
A renowned educator, Pete has been teaching drums at degree level since 1994, is a faculty member of the London College of Contemporary Media (LCCM), teaches privately at Bell Percussion, London, and appears regularly at clinics, drum camps and master classes, notably the legendary annual Freddie Gee Drum Academy.

Recently Pete placed 5th in jazz category in Rhythm magazine’s annual popularity poll (the other nominees were all from the USA). He has been a mainstay of the World’s Greatest Drummer show since its inception in 2007, has recently launched a 7 piece band, The Ministry of Jazz, and is at present appearing throughout the UK with Tony Kofi and The Organisation featuring music from the recent record release ‘Point Blank’.
