About this event
THE WAR Memorial in the Carfax in Horsham town centre will be the focus of this year’s Remembrance Sunday service on 13th November 2016.

In 2016 we are commemorating the 100th Anniversary of The Battles of the Somme and Jutland and the 25th Anniversary of the First Gulf War. On display will be a number of historical images from these conflicts as well as an 'honour guard' of small military vehicles around the bandstand.

The service will begin at 10.50am led by Revd Canon Guy Bridgewater, Vicar of Horsham. After the arrival of the parade at the War Memorial, the service will start with the hymn ‘O God Our Help in Ages Past’.

This will be followed by The Last Post.

The Vicar will then lead the Exhortation:

‘They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.’

The two minutes silence, in memory of the fallen, will follow at 11am before Cllr Christian Mitchell, the Chairman of Horsham District Council, will lay a wreath on behalf of the people of the Horsham district at the War Memorial.

He will then be followed by Nigel Caplin, Chairman of the Royal British Legion Horsham Branch and Jeremy Quin MP.

Representatives of the armed services and youth organisations will then lay their wreaths, each as a mark of solemn respect.

A blessing will mark the end of the War Memorial service.

The Parade Marshall will call the Parade to attention and they will then march to the Parish Church of St. Mary The Virgin in the Causeway, Horsham, for the Remembrance Sunday Service to which everyone is welcome.

After the service, the Parade will leave the Causeway and march back through to the Carfax where the Chairman of Horsham District Council and the Chairman of the Royal British Legion will take the salute.

Working with the Church and District Council, the Royal British Legion is the main local organiser of Horsham’s Remembrance Sunday service.

A number of Remembrance Sunday services take place throughout the Horsham district on this day.

Don't forget that you can get your poppies and make donations to RBL at their Pop Up Poppy Shop in Swan Walk's Springfield Court from late October.
