Run Barns Green has launched a new race this year to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The new race, The Jennings Junior Jog will take place on the Village Green at 12:30 pm on race day, the 25th of September. The new race will give primary aged youngsters aged 4-11 the chance to compete in a 750-metre colour run with all those taking part getting a medal.
The Jennings Junior Jog is named after long-term Chairman and Race Director of Run Barns Green Vernon Jennings, who died earlier this year. Vernon put so much into the event and it was always his aim to create a new race for the youngsters and the Run Barns Green Committee are delighted that this will now come to fruition. The Jennings Junior Jog will take place just over two hours after the start of the Half Marathon and 10k races which follow routes on closed roads through the lanes of Barns Green, Itchingfield, Dragons Green, Christ’s Hospital and close to Southwater through some of the most scenic countryside in West Sussex.
Run Barns Green started way back in 1982 and earlier this year to celebrate 40 years of running in Barns Green it unveiled its 40th anniversary logo which will be used to promote this very special local event.
Run Barns Green Race Director, Nigel Currie said, “We are delighted to announce details of our new Jennings Junior Jog. Our much missed former Chairman would have loved to have seen youngsters getting the chance to take part in their own race and we are determined to make it a permanent event and develop it over the coming years”
It is just two months to go now until race day and we look forward to welcoming as many runners as possible to take part in one of our three races. For all competitors there is plenty of free parking and a warm up exercise routine prior to the half marathon and 10k races and also for the Jennings Junior Jog. For the two adult races there is chip timing for each runner as well as pacemakers running who will help runners to achieve their target finish time. As part of the Run Barns Green’s ongoing sustainability programme all finishers receive a wooden medal at the end of the race.
