6 members of Horsham Backgammon Club participated in the Brighton Breezy Backgammon tournament last weekend. Held over 2 days at the Old Ship Hotel on the seafront, 123 players from the UK as well a number of international players from Sweden and France battled it out for glory. This year’s event was also reported upon by ITV Meridian news.

The tournament attracts players of the highest quality with a number of grandmasters in attendance. It’s the 3rd year members of the club have participated and on each occasion the club has had a successful return in either the 4 main competitions or cashing in the side events such as consulting doubles where last we had 2 pairs reach the semi-finals.

This year was no exception as Neil Clarke the club’s organiser was the victor in the Masters flight consolation competition, and Ritchie Newbold a narrow loser in the Intermediates main event final. All other players finished in the top half of their respective competitions.

Horsham Backgammon Club meets weekly Wednesday night at the Kings Arms on the Bishopric. Beginners are welcome.
